Kerala India Travel....
Duration : 8 Nights/ 9 Days
Destinations : Kochi - Munnar - Periyar - Kumarakom - Kerala Backwaters
- Alleppey - Kochi
Day
1 : Kochi
Welcome to Kochi (Cochin) and the start of your holiday!
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Perhaps enjoy
a sunset cruise on the Arabian Sea.
Overnight - Kochi
Day 2 : Kochi - Breakfast
Formerly a princely state, This morning we enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town
including the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568, the Dutch Palace built
by the Portuguese in 1555 A.D. and St Francis' Church. A walking tour of Fort
Cochin takes you through streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch
and British colonial architecture. With the afternoon at leisure, perhaps watch
the famous Keralan Kathakali dancers perform.
Overnight - Kochi
Day 3 : Kochi - Munnar
We leave Kochi behind and drive East to Munnar - the royal resort lazily on
the verdant slopes of tea plantations. Munnar is a quaint little town that
reminds one of the days of the Raj in its elegant splendour. Overnight - Munnar
Day 4 : Munnar - Periyar
After breakfast we take a short drive south to Periyar, South Indias
most popular wildlife sanctuary. Kumli, close to the sanctuary and where well
stay, is a pretty little town dotted with small spice and handicraft shops.
Overnight - Periyar
Day 5 : Periyar - Breakfast
There is plenty to do in and around Periyar - so we leave the choice to you.
Perhaps enjoy a boat ride on Lake Periyar to spot herds of wild elephants,
or visit the lush nearby tea estates.
Overnight - Periyar
Days
6 & 7 : Periyar-Kumarakom - Breakfast
We drive to Kumarakom, perched on the eastern banks of Lake Vembanad. The
heartland of Keralas famed backwaters, Kumarakom has changed little
since the Middle Ages. This is an ideal place to chill-out for a few days.
There is also a wonderful bird sanctuary, winter home to many migratory birds
(some from as far away as Siberia!) which is worth a visit.
Overnight (2) Kumarakom
Day 8 : Kerala Backwaters - Alleppey - Breakfast
This morning, we board a private rice-boat for a journey through the backwaters
in and around Alleppey. Using tall bamboo poles to push the rice barge through
the water - we cover a distance of approximately 20 kms. today! The boats
are simply furnished and the on-board cook prepares meals using fresh provisions
procured locally. We sail past colourful villages, stop for a swim and enjoy
a sumptuous evening meal presented on banana leaves.
